In Shingon Buddhism, the roots of everything are represented by the six universal entities “earth, water, fire, wind, sky, and consciousness.” The theme of this exhibition is to express the 5 elements “earth, water, fire, wind, and sky” out of these 6 roots in Japanese paintings, and make you feel “consciousness” in a space where they are arranged. While teaching Japanese painting at art universities in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Okinawa, four artists representing contemporary Japanese painting, who have created modern and unique Japanese painting works, paint “earth, water, fire, wind, and sky” while using traditional Japanese painting materials and painting methods.
