Text by Nagaoka Kenmei (D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT)
We believe the definition of “original (product)” in D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT is “adding a unique lifestyle perspective to something that has been manufactured and sold for a long time.” Also, as a style of expression, there are “recycling,” creating new parts to become new living tools, and “sampling” to add to them, etc., and while paying homage to long-life design products that have continued for a long time, we continue to carry out plans to once again shine our own spotlight on this era. Also, this time I took up stacking stools made by Akita Woodwork, which have a hint of folk art.
It was built for compact houses during high economic growth, and the shape of the era created by Kenmochi Isamu, a designer who thinks about the lives of enthusiastic Japanese people who carried Japan back then, with similarly young Matsumoto Tetsuo (current Kenmochi Design Institute director). And it's a masterpiece among the masterpieces of Japanese woodworking furniture.
I would like to once again experience the wonderful craftsmanship of Akita Woodwork through almost one-of-a-kind stools, such as those that have been reupholstered with leftovers collected from all over the country.
