The period when Mannen-san, who was hit by strong winds and washed ashore on Wajashima in the Tokara Islands, lived was the Muromachi period in Japan, and the era of Shokanpuku, son of Hisahashi of Daiichi Hisashi, who unified Okinawa Island in Ryukyu. What kind of country was the Ryukyu Nakayama Kingdom as seen by Mannen-san? Based on the experience record of Mannen-san, who appears on stage in a history book called “Jitsuroku of the Joseon Dynasty,” we think together about whether Mannen-san was a slave or a servant of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
