A special exhibition introducing the achievements of plant taxonomist Makino Tomitaro, who is called the father of Japanese botany and is also the model for the main character of the TV series “Ranman,” which is currently being broadcast, plants associated with Makino, and endangered plants in Okinawa.

●Plant observation session
In addition to observing plants related to Makino Tomitaro, such as stingy sparrows and Japanese gypsophila, plant specimens are also made at the Tropical Dream Center (Botanical garden) Hall.

●Botanical Lectures
Makino Tomitaro had never visited Okinawa, but there are many scientific names or Japanese names based on specimens collected by his friend Hisashi Kuroiwa (Okinawan animal and plant researcher). Staff who are actually researching plant taxonomy will introduce these plants and plant taxonomy.
