“White Hand Chorus NIPPON Freude! “Joy no Uta”
A story of challenge by the children of the White Hand Chorus NIPPON, which begins where German pronunciation is difficult, spans 3 months of practice, and even recorded an impressive actual performance.

At the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre on 2021/12/21, the unique and inclusive orchestra “White Hand Chorus NIPPON” chorus group, in which children and adults with visual and hearing impairments and children without disabilities also participate, performed collaboratively at the Christmas concert of a professional orchestra. White Hand Chorus NIPPON consists of two units: a choral vocal corps and another autograph team that sings lyrics with “hand songs” based on sign language. The soprano singer Erika Colon enthusiastically teaches, “I want these kids to experience the best stage.” They use sign language and lead the children with plenty of humor. They stood on the same stage as the professional orchestra and choir and challenged Beethoven's “Ninth.” Children with disabilities sang “The Ninth (Song of Joy),” which Beethoven wrote up while completely deaf in his later years, with clear voices and “hand songs.” The “Song of Joy,” which overflows from the white gloves of the autograph team, created the excitement of the scene together with the orchestra and chorus.
