Ancient documents that give a glimpse into the history and society of Ryukyu. In this course, we will take up ancient documents created domestically during the Ryukyu period, explain their historical development and characteristics, actually read a few ancient documents, and learn how to read sentences and how to take meaning. Ancient documents are written in so-called “zushi characters,” and reading is difficult, but in this course, ancient documents that are relatively easy to read are used as teaching materials, and the content is such that even first-time learners can feel familiar with ancient documents.
