Speaker: Tomiyama Ai (curator in charge of the exhibition)
Curator talk for the “Gushiken Seiji Japanese Art Exhibition” to be held from 1/21 (Sat) to 6/25 (Sun). Gushiken Seiji was born in 1908 in Okinawa and was the fourth of eight siblings. “Drawing pictures” was the only relief, such as going to sketch with my best friend while I gave up going on to college and working due to household financial circumstances. The curator in charge of the exhibition will explain works that sing about the peaceful lives of Okinawans in pale colors, such as “Izumi no Hotori”, and their backgrounds.
Gushiken Seiji
He studied under Yamada Shinzan from 1929 and Ito Shinsui in 1940. The official title was “Koga” from 1929, and changed to “Seiji” from 1963. They have repeatedly exhibited at the Meiro Art Exhibition, the New Artists Association Exhibition, the Seisensha Japanese Art Exhibition, the Shinnichi Exhibition, the Nippon Exhibition, etc.
