In 1879 (Meiji 12), the Japanese government abolished the Ryukyu Domain and established Okinawa Prefecture. As the era of early modern Ryukyu came to an end and the times changed to modern times, what kind of lives did women live? Also, in Okinawa, which was burnt to the ground by the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 (Showa 20), what kind of roles did women play and how did they live after the war? Through the materials in the museum's collection, we look back on the history of Okinawan women from the Ryukyu Kingdom period to the present day.
