Edge and Funato
An indie band composed of Junko Fuchigami (vocals/pianica/fanatical) and Hiroshi Funato (wood bass). Mainly active in Kyoto.
Fuchigami and Funato, who met while traveling to Africa separately, met again in Kyoto after returning to Japan, and began singing in 1991 when they were asked to sing at an acquaintance's bar in Kyoto. The arrangement with only wood bass and songs and the fun of selecting and arranging songs became popular, and they began to perform live at bars and parties all over the place. Also, under such circumstances, we ourselves reaffirmed the fun of the performances by this organization, created original songs in 1992, and began performing at live houses with the band name “Fuchigami and Funato.” In 1997, he established his own label “Yoshida House Label”. All 5 albums of Fuchigami and Funato will be released from here. Music of unknown genres and its spirit have gradually been accepted by both the audience and performers, and they have reached the present while showing expansion in activity locations, audiences, and co-stars alike.

Junko Fuchigami (vocals/pianica/fanatical)
From a young age, he played pop songs on the piano and performed solo concerts in the reception room at home, and this became the prototype for later musical activities. After various band activities, he temporarily concentrated on being a junior high school teacher and withdrew from music. Around 1987, I quit my job as a teacher and set out on a trip to wander around Africa. There was something I felt a lot during my trip to Africa for about a year and a half, and after returning to Japan, I started singing again and formed my own bands “Visiliba” and “Fuchigami and Funato.” Both bands continued their activities steadily and continue to exist even now. Beginning in 2000, they also tried duos with musicians other than Funato.

Hiroshi Funato (wood bass)
After graduating from Doshisha University, he began his career as a jazz bassist. After wandering around the world and returning from Africa in 1988, he began his musical activities in earnest without being bound by genres. Up until now, he has participated in many bands. Other than “Edge and Funato,” there are Sights, Wilkinson Brothers, Vigiliba, No Wave, etc. There is EQ (an improvisation group by Kazuhisa Uchihashi (g) and Mari Furuta (PERC)) that they host themselves. Also, while immersing themselves in the world of jazz, chanson, etc., they also have sessions with various folk instruments. They are a band full of Mondays at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands in 1997/7, and performed at the Ryukyu Festival with DAIKU Tetsuhiro in 1999/9. The main co-stars include Kazutoki Umezu, Hiroaki Katayama, Michihiro Sato, John Rose, Steve Beresford, Shibuya Takeshi, Yamaki Hideo, Hayashi Eiichi, Yamamoto Seiichi, Chino Shuichi, Donal Laney, Fukuhara Tsunetake, Hara Masumi, Saneyoshi Isako, Okuma Wataru, Oshima Yasukatsu, DAIKU Tetsuhiro, Mikami Hiroshi, Yokokawa Tadahiko, etc.
