Makishi Tsutomu (1941 - 2015) is an artist from Okinawa known by the nickname “TOM MAX.” After graduating from Tama Art University in 1964, he went to New York alone, and after returning to Japan, he was based in his hometown of Okinawa. As a pioneer of avant-garde art in Okinawa after the war, and through the painting class “Pen to House,” which he presided over, he influenced many young artists. The exhibition, which has simultaneously held works sleeping in that warehouse at several locations in the prefecture for each era, will also be held for the 5th time this year for the last time, and works from later years with even stronger messages are lined up.
