The tradition of Shi-shi mai (Lion dance performance) in Okinawa prefecture, which is said to be 300 years old or more, has been passed down from generation to generation through annual events and regions. In order to connect the Shi-shi mai (Lion dance performance) to the future, a new lion head is indispensable. What was entrusted to the hands of lion craftsman Masahiro Nakasone is the production of a valuable lion head that connects 300 years of “umui” to the future. The number of lion heads created by Masahiro Nakasone extends to 61, from zero to steadily and carefully. This work is a documentary that spells out the process by which Nakasone creates a new lion head in Shitahaku, Yaese Town, which is entering a period of generational change, and people's feelings for lions.
