Okinawa, which became the only site of Japan's fierce ground battle in the Pacific War, cost 1/4 of the island's population, 150,000 precious lives. Thousands of boys and girls aged 15 to 19 were driven to the battlefield by the Japanese army, and more than half lost their lives on the battlefield. In the “Himeyuri Student Corps,” which were mobilized as nursing personnel, 123 out of 222 disappeared as dew on the battlefield. Of the 40 Himeyuri students who were in the Gama (natural cave) in Ihara, where the “Himeyuri Cenotaph (War Memorial for school girls)” is now built, only 5 survived. In order not to repeat that terrible war again, many excellent notes have been left by survivors, dedicated to the spirits of many young schoolmates scattered on the battlefield. A former Himeyuri student and lead teacher creates a script based on a valuable note describing the reality of this war, and Takeshita Keiko reads it aloud.
