Michio Washio, who was active as an exclusive photographer for 20 years since the first publication of the weekly photography magazine FOCUS, is a photographer who has also actively presented his works in solo exhibitions. This time he visited Okinawa repeatedly and filmed while deepening his thoughts An exhibition of works that I did
Washio, who was invited to go to Okinawa in 2011, read history books and so on again, and realized that he was only a bystander even though he had been doing so many times before, it is said that his heart was ruffled. Since then, I went to the main island and the islands many times and staring at Okinawa, swaying in various issues such as wars and bases.
When I met the local people in my journey, I was able to hear an individual experience that was different from history books. I also tried walking barefoot along the limestone coast and spent the night in Gama (cave). The portraits that were photographed while walking, thinking, and listening carefully to the stories of those who met, seem to have inscribed the life of the person who was photographed and the history of Okinawa where they lived. There are only works unique to Mr. Washio who looks at the truth that appears in everyday life.
