The late Katsumi Sunamori was born in Okinawa with a Filipino father belonging to the US Army in Okinawa and a mother from Amami Oshima Island. After living with his father, he became a professional boxer. After that, he studied photography in Osaka, became free after working as a contracted photographer in the photography weekly magazine, and won the Domon Ken Prize for his personal history "Drifting Island Tumaru Water”.
During the three years until the death of Sunamori in 2009, his daughter Kazura was present in the work of Katsumi Sunamori as an assistant, and now she organizes, stores and researches her works. Now 10 years have passed since his death、Starting from Mr. Kazura's strong feelings、Including unpublished works scrutinized photos、It was carried to exhibit a new exhibition。
The “contact zone” refers to the contact area where different languages and cultures interact. Is there a standing point for sand amori on the beach called “contact zone” where everything can be mixed up and separated by lines. The remaining works are supported by strong recordability, and in the changing era background, each time, they show a different shine.
I hope this exhibition will be an opportunity to think again what was ahead of his gaze with a rare photographer named Katsumi Sunamori.
