On August 6, 1948, an accident exploded ammunition when the US military loaded unexploded ammunition and unused bombs during the war of Okinawa into LCT (landing craft) and carrying out operations to the outside of the island. As the local contact ship arrived after 5 o'clock in the evening, many people gathered to meet and pick up at the port, resulting in a large number of casualties.
